Sci-Fi Film club poster

Films and graphic design have been an important part of visual culture since the end of the 19th century due to their consolidation as professions tied to western art. This way, it is not surprising that film posters – aside from reflecting the changes of their time – have also helped promoting film series in institutions of educational and cultural type.

Such is the case of the Sci-Fi Filmclub poster, created for Casa de la Cultura of the UAEM (The University of the State of Mexico) located in Tlalpan, in the south of Mexico City.

The concept of this poster was based on the gloomy and harsh style of classic sci-fi movies such as Alien, Brazil, Blade Runner and Matrix, which are known for showing a dystopic and hopeless future for humanity and their obsession with technology. Due to this, the image of the poster — a newborn baby framed by  technological submission and global consumption — ended up as a homage to the irony and disappointment on the future of the cyberpunk culture.
